Driving under the influence is definitely something that everyone should try their best to avoid. Not only does it pose a danger to you, it also poses a threat to everyone else on the roads with you.
However, if you have gotten a DUI in the past, it is still possible to get back on the roads and carry on with a safe driving record. Many people with DUIs still want to be able to drive in all kinds of different settings and to be able to rent a car. So what are the rules about this?
Currently (November of 2014), you can’t rent a car if you’ve had one DUI conviction in the last 48 months. This means that if you have this kind of serious driving infraction on your record in the last two years, you’ll need to have someone else rent a car instead of you. Additionally, you will not be allowed to rent a car if you have three or more convictions for violations within the last 24 months, excluding seatbelt violations.
Whether you’ve had a recent DUI or not, know that every rental car company will look at your driving history when you rent and they can deny you the ability to rent if they see fit. So, it’s best to be careful every time you get behind the wheel. This will ensure that should you ever need to rent a car, you’ll have no problem doing so.
